Black metal was first mentioned in the 18th century. It formed a band after a failed rebellion to escape slave and French rule in the 1840s.

Their name came from the German word berghe “the heart” (bekch, “sweet joy”; they were known as an “unworthy” band) but the band became considered to be one of the pioneers of an underground style of music. This style of music attracted young musicians. Black metal is famous for its heavy emphasis on violence, death metal and other themes that could lead to death.
